Agreement

Following Jesus should make a difference in how I live my life. I need to have a heart and care deeply with my brothers and sisters in Jesus. God’s goal for me is to love and care.

I need to cultivate a spirit of agreement. It should never be about who is right. Agreement comes out of love. I really need to get this.

Love drives me to be friends and put myself aside. I must focus on helping others get ahead and becoming all that Jesus wants them to be.

There are some days when I obsess about what I want and why getting what I want is important. What I want is not important at all. My job is to help. That is all.

If you’ve gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if his love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you care— then do me a favor: Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends. Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand.
