First things FirstThere are two sisters. Jesus comes to visit. What an honor. Their brother is Lazerus. They live in Bethany, near Jerusalem.

Martha was busy serving everyone. She had a very long “to do” list to get everything ready. She is focused. She is going to get everything done.

Mary was relaxed. She sat at Jesus feet, listening to Jesus. Mary wanted to learn from Jesus. She wasn’t concerned about getting things ready. Eventually Martha had had enough. She interrupted them. “Master, don’t you care that my sister has abandoned the kitchen to me? Tell her to lend me a hand.” she said.

Jesus said, “Martha, dear Martha, you’re fussing far too much and getting yourself worked up over nothing.” I’m sure Martha didn’t think it was nothing.

Jesus is clear. Listening to Jesus comes first. First things first. Jesus demands we choose things in the proper order. Listen first, serve second.

It is the main thing about the main thing. I need to get this right. Priorities make a difference. This is important. God has a goal for me. I can’t know what it is if I don’t listen to Him.

May I listen to Jesus first and then act / serve.

One thing only is essential, and Mary has chosen it—it’s the main course, and won’t be taken from her.” ~~Jesus
