Jesus is intentional in his instructions. His clarity of caution is to be taken seriously.

  • The first goal from Jesus is get on my way. I can’t let anything hold me back and there is plenty that could. I must go.
  • Having gone on God’s mission, I must be careful. While I know God’s goal, there is an enemy. I must be prepared. I can’t let my guard down.
  • Is the work a “cake walk”? Nope. Jesus let’s me know it is very hazardous. There are land mines out there just waiting for me wander off the beaten path.
  • Thanks be to Jesus that he knows all of this and doesn’t lead me astray thinking it is a bed of roses. I should be weary of messages that present it that way.

Later the Master selected seventy and sent them ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he intended to go. He gave them this charge:

“On your way! But be careful—this is hazardous work. You’re like lambs in a wolf pack.”
