Paul reminds me. I am at war. It is an ongoing war. It doesn’t stop.
Who is the enemy? The enemy is the Devil, the evil one. His mission, as described by Jesus, is to kill, steal and destroy.
The good news is that God has given me weapons. I have to learn how to use them. They each serve a different purpose.
- The belt of truth buckled around your waist.
- The breastplate of righteousness in place.
- Feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the good news of peace.
- The shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
- The helmet of salvation.
- The sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

The purpose of God’s weapons is to keep me in the battle, alive and standing. The weapons are also there for my brothers and sisters.
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the good news of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. | Source: Ephesians 6:13-18
I love this from “The 300”. One of my favorite movie scenes. “What is your Profession”
And so … I put on the whole armor of God!
These days we need the “full” armor of God. I guess it has always been so, but in our days the battle seems more front and center than before in my lifetime.

I agree with you. I think evil has expanded it’s foothold for some period of time now. We have an enemy who is playing for keeps. Great news we have a Commander in Chief (Jesus) who has prepared us and given us the tools.
The challenge, I think, is helping others see we are in a fight. We need mighty warriors at our side.
Blessings and keep the good fight up!

Indeed, convincing our world that there really is a battle for our minds and souls is a major challenge. Eph 6:12 “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” Not many people buy into this portion of Scripture, but the battle is real!

“The weapons are also there for my brothers and sisters.” Thank you for including this thought, one that I believe is oft overlooked! My relationship with Christ isn’t just about me!

Exactly. The army is there to protect the citizens. We are citizens in God’s country (aka Kingdom).

Indeed it is. The Spartans sent their sons off to military academy to train them in warfare at the age of 7. They trained from that early age to be soldiers. “Spartans, what is your profession?” They knew for sure.
May we know what our calling and profession is.
Blessings to you!

How little has changed since the day of the Apostle Paul. Today the thing that most Christians need is that belt of Truth.

Tom, thanks for the link to the free bible study guides. What do you know about the United Church of God, an International Association?
Blessings.

Well, I am not a member. I guess the best name for what I prefer is Reformed Theology. I did send that link as suggestion that you change your church. Unless a group has clearly departed from the Bible, I don’t spend a lot of time worrying about matters of fact. The point of that web page is the importance of the belt in the armor of ancient soldiers.
I am afraid every Christian church hold to some ideas that separate from others. The United Church of God, an International Association is probably a bit odder than most. They are Nontrinitarian, for example. Since I don’t understand it myself, it is a bit difficult to be critical. Anyway, they seem to like the KJV (https://www.ucg.org/united-news/which-bible-should-i-use).

Tom, thanks for the clarification. I didn’t think that. I was just curious what you knew about them since I was getting some confusing information about them.
Your answer is very helpful.
Blessings and happy election day!
