Jesus experienced the ultimate.
Jesus took on the penalty for our missing God’s goal (i.e. sin). Jesus died for our redemption. At that moment, God abandoned Jesus.
That is difficult to grasp. It was my fault. Sad!
With that utterance, Jesus gave his last breath and died. No intervention. God let it happen.
Why? God had a plan. In that plan, the only one who could redeem all of mankind was his perfect Son.
God had a plan. Jesus executed it faithfully up to the very end. There was not a single point of deviation on the part of Jesus. Jesus is the faithful son.
And … then the good news. Jesus rose from the grave 3 days later in resurrected glory, never to die again. Jesus ascended into heaven to rule God’s country (aka Kingdom).
At noon the sky became extremely dark. The darkness lasted three hours. At three o’clock, Jesus groaned out of the depths, crying loudly, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?”
