Faithfulness is the proper response to God by his covenant people. It is seen in a steadfast commitment which reflects God’s own faithfulness to the covenant. Encouraged in all believers, it is especially important in leaders.
I am called to be faithful and trustworthy. I am challenged by this some days. When I think about it and focus on it, I execute God’s goal. Some days, like a sheep, I wander off.
I am thankful for the good Shepherd who finds me and brings me back home.
The good news is that God is always faithful. That is just the way He is. He has always been patient, waiting for me to come back to Jesus and follow Him.
God is good! God is in a good mood. God will see me through to the end.
Faithfulness is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. [Galatians 5:22 – But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.]
Since being faithful is a fruit, I know that fruit isn’t ripe to begin with. In fact, fruit starts as a seed, grows into a tree, blossoms, starts out small and then slowly ripens. Serving Jesus leads to faithfulness. It starts small and grows. I must start with small things to get trusted with more.
Faithfulness — the proper response to God by his covenant people. God has an agreement with us (aka a covenant). A key component of any agreement is that both parties honor and keep the agreement. It requires faithfulness.
I must hold up my end of the agreement with God, sealed by the blood of Jesus the Messiah.
Jesus is clear about faithfulness. Jesus shows me that I must persevere if I am to be a part of His Kingdom, where He is in complete control. There can be no wavering. I should count the cost up front to be sure I will afford the journey.
- Revelation 2:10 (NASB) — ‘Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, so that you will be tested, and you will have tribulation for ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
- 1 Kings 2:3–4 (NASB) — “Keep the charge of the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His ordinances, and His testimonies, according to what is written in the Law of Moses, that you may succeed in all that you do and wherever you turn, so that the Lord may carry out His promise which He spoke concerning me, saying, ‘If your sons are careful of their way, to walk before Me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, you shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.’
- Exodus 19:5 (NASB) — ‘Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine;
- Deuteronomy 5:32–33 (NASB) — “So you shall observe to do just as the Lord your God has commanded you; you shall not turn aside to the right or to the left. “You shall walk in all the way which the Lord your God has commanded you, that you may live and that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you will possess.”
- Deuteronomy 10:12–13 (NASB) — “Now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require from you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and love Him, and to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the Lord’s commandments and His statutes which I am commanding you today for your good?
- Deuteronomy 29:9 (NASB) — “So keep the words of this covenant to do them, that you may prosper in all that you do.”
- Isaiah 1:26 (NASB) — “Then I will restore your judges as at the first, And your counselors as at the beginning; After that you will be called the city of righteousness, A faithful city.”
