Jesus clearly calls me to do good works! The purpose of my good works is to glorify the amazing and beautiful God. If it doesn’t do that, I’ve got the wrong motives and I have the wrong outcomes. Now that is a good word. Please receive it.
Goodness and good works are acts designed specifically to help others, which are characteristic of God. I can be good because God is good. And He is in a good mood.
Good works are not a “bad thing”. They won’t save me but that isn’t the point.
Jesus requires and enables me to do good, although such is contrary to my human nature. Salvation does not depend on good works, but leads to them. I am called to be like God, as a child of God. I am a new creation, not subject to my old self that missed God’s goal for my life.
I have the power of the Holy Spirit and His fruit is growing in me.
Good works are characteristic of God. God is in a good mood. God has my best interests at the core of His being.
“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” ~Jesus | Matthew 5:17
