Am I being fickle? Do I get swayed by the next great thing spoken by the new charismatic religious leader I hear?
They have a best-selling book. Doesn’t that count for something?
They are successful with thousands attending “their church” every week. Doesn’t that count for something?
They are wealthy and promise me I can be too. Doesn’t that count for something?
They went to the best seminary and have a doctorate degree. Doesn’t that count for something?
The president listens to them. Doesn’t that count for something?
I can’t turn into a traitor to Jesus and the message of His good news. I must rely on His word. It is solid. It is the main thing.
How does the “new message” compare to what Jesus says? Does it vary? Should I care?
If I exam them, some of these messages are alien. They are a no-message. They are a lie about God. They are turning the message of Jesus on it’s head.
Well, what if it is someone I trust? Interesting challenge but then again who should I be trusting? A charismatic elitist or Jesus? The elitist is bringing down a curse on themself. I must recognize the message for what it is.
Amen. Always examine any teaching beneath the light of God’s word. God bless you!

I have been struggling with this as well Michael. Jesus used many people, including Dave Ramsey and TV preachers to get the word to me. He saved me and now He’s guiding me in the path of righteousness…I’m learning to discern His word now and not just believe everything I hear preached from the pulpit. I love hearing the word of God preached…but I don’t like how it’s being twisted by some. So much of the “New Age” stuff is seeping in through the cracks. We have to be wise and allow the Holy Spirit to guide us. If we ask for wisdom He will give it to us!

I understand. For years I enjoyed the ministry of a very prominent minister. Articulate, charismatic, stunning in his delivery. Something seemed to be missing though.
He can bring great insight to scripture and God blesses him with signs and wonders. Slowly he has allowed the ministry to slip into a “prosperity” mode. It is subtle with him but blatant with others on his team.
What is missing? Very little mention of the redemptive work of Jesus who died for us and proved the power of God by His resurrection.
I’ve moved on and I am better off for it without that influence in my thinking.
Be blessed. God is with you.

May we not be chasing trends just to chase trends or only look for something new and shiny just because it is new and shiny
