Jesus is my Master. As my Master, Jesus has some commands for me. They are not optional if I follow Jesus.
Jesus leads the way. Jesus is obedient to His Father. Jesus isn’t asking anything from me that He isn’t willing to do Himself.
Jesus is offering me love. This is amazing and stunning good news. Jesus only asks that I obey Him.
“If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.” | John 15:10
Is love optional? Yes, I get to decide whether to love or not. It is a gift. I can use it or not. It is a fruit that I can cultivate and grow, or not. So I get to decide. I often am not loving. I can be mean and cruel. I have no defense. “Master Jesus the Messiah, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.” Jesus does have mercy. Jesus keeps on helping me grow.
Where does love come from? Love comes from the Holy Spirit. It is a gift. It is fruit that grows in me. Because I have received the Holy Spirit, I can actually love, whereas before, I could not. I tried, but it was useless.
Love describes God’s love for humanity. There is good news in that the Word of God and Jesus offers an understanding of the source, character, requirement and value of love. It is based on the nature and actions of God our Father.
Love and wisdom are indeed two of God’s gifts or blessings to help us obey his Commandments and as a result His blessings and rewards in this ice and the next.
So simple and easy to say, so hard to do for so many who believe the are their own masters……. .of your own disasters…….or recipients of His blessings.
