Jesus is clear. I am to be a servant. Jesus shows me the way. Jesus made himself a slave of God and servant of man.
That is it. No grand role. No fancy titles.
My mission, given to me by my Master Jesus, is to love and serve.
Do you want to stand out? Then step down. Be a servant. If you puff yourself up, you’ll get the wind knocked out of you. But if you’re content to simply be yourself, your life will count for plenty. ~Jesus | Matthew 23:11-12
Servanthood is an attitude exemplified by the Messiah “who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave.” (Philippians 2:6-7).
The five words in the New Testament translated “ministry” generally refer to servanthood or service given in love. Serving others is the very essence of ministry. All believers are called to ministry (Matthew 28:18-20), and, therefore, we are all called to be servants for the glory of God.
Living is giving; all else is selfishness and boredom.
It is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your willing and humble slave; just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many paying the price to set them free from the penalty of sin. ~Jesus | Matthew 20:26-28
