Now this is stunning news. If I practice missing God’s goal (aka sin) then I am of the devil.

Jesus appeared for the purpose destroying the devils work.  There is good news. I am free. Jesus paid the price. Jesus has ransomed me, and I belong to Him now. I am His slave have been bought from the slavery to the devil and evil. Can I get a shout out about that?

The one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil. |1 John 3:8

The one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.

He that practices sin is of the devil — This contrasts with “He that does righteousness”. He is a son of the devil.

John does not, however, say, “born of the devil.” as he does “born of God,” for “the devil begets none, nor does he create any; but whoever imitates the devil becomes a child of the devil by imitating him, not by proper birth”.

Sinned from the beginning — From the time that he became what he is, the devil. Satan seems to have kept his first estate only a very short time after his creation. Since the fall of man at the beginning of our world the devil is ever sinning. He has sinned from the beginning, is the cause of all sins, and still goes on sinning. As the author of sin, and prince of this world, he has never ceased to seduce man to sin

Destroy — break up and do away with; bruising and crushing the serpent’s head.

Works of the devil — sin, and all its awful consequences. John argues, disciples cannot do that which the Messiah came to destroy.

Jesus was on a mission of destructionThe Greek here is λύω luō, loo´-o; a primary verb; to “loosen” (lit. or fig.): — break (up), destroy, dissolve, (un-) loose, melt, put off.

It is translated

destroy NASB95, ESV
to destroy LEB, CSB
he might destroy KJV 1900

Destroy refers to: Jesus — Son of God, savior of the world.

Jesus the Messiah triumphs over and disarms all the powers of evil arrayed against him. Believers are able to share in this victory through faith in Jesus the Messiah. I am free. Jesus made that happen. I have good news. So do you. We all do.

I miss God’s goal (aka sin). Jesus did not. Jesus died to take my place. Jesus rose again, defeating death. Jesus is victorious in all things.

Now that is some amazing news. Jesus defeated sin! Let’s shout it out.

Victory — It is complete in Jesus as He defeated Sin: “Victory in Jesus” is an exciting topic to explore! Just saying those three words brings joy to my heart. As  believers, what victory do we have in Jesus? We have victory over sin.

None of us deserve forgiveness, but that is the amazing thing about grace! God loves us so much that He willingly took our sins to Calvary and nailed them to the cross. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

  • Jesus bore the burdens of my missing God’s goal (aka sin) that day — my sin, and yours — so that we may have victory in Jesus through the blood that He shed on the cross. Jesus is waiting and willing to forgive you of your sins!
  • Romans 5:20–21  — The Law came in so that the transgression would increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, even so grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus the Messiah our Lord.
  • 1 John 3:5  — You know that He appeared in order to take away sins; and in Him there is no sin.

Here is some more:

  • John 12:31 “Now judgment is upon this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.”
  • John 16:11 And concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.
  • John 1:13 Who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
  • John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
  • 1 John 2:29 If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone also who practices righteousness is born of Him.
  • 1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.

  • 1 John 3:6 No one who abides in Him sins; no one who sins has seen Him or knows Him.
  • 1 John 5:18 We know that no one who is born of God sins; but He who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him.
