Leadership
Here is great advice. Don’t get drunk. There is no good that comes from it.
Leaders need a clear and steady mind. To govern well, we need leaders who not in a fog from a hangover.
“Leaders can’t afford to make fools of themselves, gulping wine and swilling beer, lest, hung over, they don’t know right from wrong, and the people who depend on them are hurt.” | ~King Lemuel | Proverbs 31:4-7 (The Message Bible)
This little collection of sayings was passed on to King Lemuel by his mother! Lemuel is not mentioned anywhere else in the Bible and is not a king of Israel that we know of.
Lemuel’s mother warns him against wasting his energy on women, or befuddling his wits with wine. Instead, he should speak up for the powerless and protect the poor. This is a brilliant insight into Israel’s standards for political authority—and finds many of her kings falling short!
All great advice for governmental leaders.
