Goal

I miss God’s goal for my life (aka sin or sinning). That is my natural state.

Does this bother Jesus? Nope! Not at all. Jesus is our friend. Jesus came to set us free from this natural condition. Jesus paid the price for me so I don’t have to. Jesus has good news for me.

What is that good news? Jesus is my friend. Jesus loves me and has great affection for me. Jesus isn’t angry with me. Jesus is fond of me.

God is not angry. Jesus knows this. God is patient and kind. God is always waiting for us.

Jesus wants to sit down with me and eat some food and drink some wine. Jesus is friendly. That is a good thing. That is good news.

  • Matthew 11:19 (NASB) — “The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.”
  • Luke 7:39 —Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet He would know who and what sort of person this woman is who is touching Him, that she is a sinner.”
  • Luke 19:7 —When they saw it, they all began to grumble, saying, “He has gone to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.”
