This is so encouraging. I, because of what Jesus has done, can go right up to God. I don’t need a priest or pastor to get between me and God. Jesus paid the price for me with His sacrifice. What stunning news that is. I can do it without hesitation. Just march right in.
So, friends, we can now — without hesitation — walk right up to God, into “the Holy Place.” Jesus has cleared the way by the blood of his sacrifice, acting as our priest before God. The “curtain” into God’s presence is his body. | Hebrews 10:19-21 (The Message Bible)
No Old Agreement (Covenant) worshiper would have been bold enough to try to enter the holy of holies in the tabernacle. Even the high priest entered the holy of holies only once a year. The thick veil that separated the holy place from the holy of holies was a barrier between people and God. Only the death of Jesus could tear that veil and open the way into the heavenly sanctuary where God dwells.
“Let us draw near … Let us hold fast … Let us consider one another.” This threefold invitation hinges on our boldness to enter into the holiest. And this boldness (“freedom of speech”) rests on the finished work of the Savior. On the Day of Atonement, the high priest could not enter the holy of holies unless he had the blood of the sacrifice. But our entrance into God’s presence is not because of an animal’s blood, but because of the Messiah’s shed blood.
