Prayer
Jesus continues the Jesus Manifesto and the model prayer.
I have needs on a daily basis. We all do. Jesus encourages me to acknowledge that in my conversation with God and ask for the days needs to be met. The Israelites received manna daily in the wilderness. God is good and in a good mood. He is going to take care of me.
There is a principle of focus on today and to not worry about tomorrow. That is reflected in my prayer life.
Give us this day our daily bread. ~Jesus | Matthew 6:11 (ESV)
Jesus later emphasizes the daily aspect of this when he said:
Don’t strive for what you should eat and what you should drink, and don’t be anxious. For the Gentile world eagerly seeks all these things, and your Father knows that you need them. | Luke 12:28-30
James encourages to get involved in solving the daily needs of our brothers and sisters in Jesus.
What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but does not have works? Can such faith save him? If a brother or sister is without clothes and lacks daily food and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, stay warm, and be well fed,” but you don’t give them what the body needs, what good is it? | James 2:14-16
Too often many people forget that faith without works is death. Many also do not take care to have their character formed in the way God would want it, to be according to the statutes of the Most High. Let us therefore not forget to live by stepping in the footsteps of Christ Jesus, counting on it that we may be fed and guided by the daily bible Readings, the food from heaven, and let us pray in the same way as Jesus prayed to his heavenly Father and giving him the same trust as Jesus trusted his only One True God, the God of Israel.
