Self Examination
It is very difficult for me to see what is in my heart. I’ve hidden my faults from myself. My heart is evil. I don’t like to consider that but it is true.
Jesus made it clear that
“What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of people’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immoralities, thefts, murders, adulteries, greed, evil actions, deceit, self-indulgence, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness.” | Matthew 15:19
God is ready to help. God can show me what is my heart. Jesus leads the way. There is good news. Through the Holy Spirit, I can grow fruit that is pleasing to God. I can have joy, love, peace, kindness, meekness, goodness, faithfulness, hope, self-control, justice, patience, and gentleness.
So there is good news! When I change my radically change my mind and act differently (aka repent), I am a new creation in Jesus. Through the Prophet Ezekiel, we learn the: “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”
- Psalm 19:12–14 —Who can discern his errors? Acquit me of hidden faults. Also keep back Your servant from presumptuous sins; Let them not rule over me; Then I will be blameless, And I shall be acquitted of great transgression. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O the Messiah, my rock and my Redeemer.
- Jeremiah 17:9 — “The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; Who can understand it?”
Wishing you and yours a very blessed Christmas Michael!
