Jesus is clear what love looks like. My words need to reflect His love in me. This is a core part of the Jesus Manifesto (aka the Sermon on the Mount).
Jesus knows that being careless in what we say to others can have consequences we don’t want to see. It isn’t pretty. It is way too easy to be careless. The words just jump out. Yikes!
Jesus demands that we have a pure heart and then we won’t say careless words to others. His goal for us is to be intentional in our love. Love gets reflected in what we do and say.
May what I say reflect His love in my heart. May I learn to be kind, loving and compassionate.
“Carelessly call a brother ‘idiot!’ and you just might find yourself hauled into court.” ~Jesus | Matthew 5:21-22 (The Message Bible)
Here are the key ideas:
- God’s goal is for us to love one another
- Be intentional in saying good things about others
- There are consequences for being careless in what we say
This is indeed a warning to all that walk in faith, that we take far too lightly. Thank you for sharing this! Blessings.

Call anybody an idiot is not wise.
Better to suggest there are fools on our planet and how to determine the difference between wisdom and folly, love and hate, in my opinion.
Then pray whoever you have in mind will listen and discern the differences.
Regards and good will blogging.
