Jesus sent the disciples out to spread the good news about how God rules. He recognized that they would need a place to stay and meals to eat. Jesus set it up so that they would not be in need.
The same is true today. Jesus takes care of His workers. Those of us being served should recognize that and help deserving ministers and ministries. It is for our benefit.
God is great. He takes care of us and our basic needs.
Imagine this. For over 3 years, Jesus and the disciples went from town to town proclaiming the good news. They weren’t working or earning a living. How did they survive?
They had benefactors who financially supported the ministry.
Will I help those who devote their lives to proclaim the good news of Jesus and who are making disciples in all the world?
“Stay at one home, taking your meals there, for a worker deserves three square meals. Don’t move from house to house, looking for the best cook in town.” ~Jesus Luke 10:7 (The Message Bible)
There was an urgency about the work, and the Lord did not want them to be overburdened with extra supplies or be delayed on the road by elaborate Eastern greetings. They had to trust God to provide homes and food for them, and they were not to be embarrassed to accept hospitality.
After all, they were laboring for the Lord and bringing blessing into the home, and “the laborer is worthy of his hire”
For the Scripture says: Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain, and, The worker is worthy of his wages. | Christian Standard Bible. (2020). (1 Ti 5:18). Nashville, TN: Holman Bible Publishers.
Thank you Michael for sharing this. I have been a missionary full and part time for most of my life. I will say even when we had short falls (in giving) God always (emphasized) filled in the gaps. I know when I am faithful to give from my bounty or my lack of bounty that I am blessed. Give people of God while there is still time to give to the work that God is doing. Most of those who give have very little but their hearts are big. ~Blessings
