Mary at the crossJesus’ mother, his aunt, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene stood at the foot of the cross. They witness the cruel death of our Master Jesus. Imagine the sorrow in their hearts and souls.

Jesus saw his mother and the disciple he loved standing near her.

What is Jesus concerned about as he is facing a slow and cruel death for us? It is for his mother.

Jesus leads the way showing us it is not about us. It is about others. It is about family. He makes sure we are taken care of. No one is left behind.

While the soldiers were looking after themselves, Jesus’ mother, his aunt, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene stood at the foot of the cross. Jesus saw his mother and the disciple he loved standing near her. He said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.” Then to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that moment the disciple accepted her as his own mother. | John 19:26-27 The Message (MSG)

Jesus assured his Mother  of His love. He gave His choicest disciple, who rested on His bosom, to be her adopted son and to care for her.

Whether that moment John took Mary away from the scene and took her home, we do not know. We do know that he cared for her and that she was among the believers in the Upper Room as they awaited Pentecost.

Even while He was performing the great work of redemption, Jesus was faithful to His responsibilities as a son. What an honor it was for John to take his Lord’s place in Mary’s life!
