Do You Believe in the Resurrection of Jesus Christ? | Biblica - The International Bible Society

They had waited. It wasn’t easy but they honored the Sabbath. So much had happened and they were so distraught.

Jesus was dead. What would they do?

They did what they knew to do. They did what was required of them. They went to prepare his body for burial.

Our God had a different plan in mind. Through the mighty power of the Spirit of God, he raised Jesus up from the dead into an incorruptible body.

Not just for Jesus to die again but forever.

He lives.

He is risen.

God is God. Nothing is impossible for Him.

At the crack of dawn on Sunday, the women came to the tomb carrying the burial spices they had prepared. They found the entrance stone rolled back from the tomb, so they walked in. But once inside, they couldn’t find the body of the Master Jesus.

They were puzzled, wondering what to make of this. Then, out of nowhere it seemed, two men, light cascading over them, stood there. The women were awestruck and bowed down in worship. The men said, “Why are you looking for the Living One in a cemetery? He is not here, but raised up. Remember how he told you when you were still back in Galilee that he had to be handed over to sinners, be killed on a cross, and in three days rise up?” Then they remembered Jesus’ words.

They left the tomb and broke the news of all this to the Eleven and the rest. Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them kept telling these things to the apostles, but the apostles didn’t believe a word of it, thought they were making it all up.

But Peter jumped to his feet and ran to the tomb. He stooped to look in and saw a few grave clothes, that’s all. He walked away puzzled, shaking his head. | via Luke 24:1-12

Jesus gave the apostles great power. It was stunning. The sick were being healed. What was their message, based on their personal experience? What did the say?

The proclaimed the power of the resurrection of Jesus, the Son of God and Messiah.

So what happen?

Grace came down on them all. Grace fell like rain in the middle of a draught. There was nothing like it. It was stunning.

The apostles spread the message of the power of God that put an end to the agony of death. Boom! It disappeared. Death found it impossible to hold Jesus, God’s very Son, in its power. Death tried but it couldn’t be done. No WAY!

Jesus was dead three days but that was it. God raised Him up to an incorruptible body, never to decay at all. Perfect, like He has always been. The apostles saw it. The spread the message everywhere.

  • Acts 4:33 — 33 And with great power the apostles were giving testimony to the resurrection of the Master Jesus, and abundant grace was upon them all.
  • Acts 2:24–32 — 24 “But God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power. 25 “For David says of Him, ‘I saw the Master always in my presence; For He is at my right hand, so that I will not be shaken. 26 ‘therefore my heart was glad and my tongue exulted; Moreover my flesh also will live in hope; 27 Because You will not abandon my soul to Hades, Nor allow Your Holy One to undergo decay. 28 ‘You have made known to me the ways of life; You will make me full of gladness with Your presence.’ 29 “Brethren, I may confidently say to you regarding the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. 30 “And so, because he was a prophet and knew that God had sworn to him with an oath to seat one of his descendants on his throne, 31 he looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of the the Messiah, that He was neither abandoned to Hades, nor did His flesh suffer decay. 32 “This Jesus God raised up again, to which we are all witnesses.
  • Acts 10:40–41 — 40 “God raised Him up on the third day and granted that He become visible, not to all the people, but to witnesses who were chosen beforehand by God, that is, to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead.
  • Acts 17:2–3 —And according to Paul’s custom, he went to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures, explaining and giving evidence that the the Messiah had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, “This Jesus whom I am proclaiming to you is the Messiah.”
  • Acts 17:18 — 18 And also some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers were conversing with him. Some were saying, “What would this idle babbler wish to say?” Others, “He seems to be a proclaimer of strange deities,”—because he was preaching Jesus and the resurrection.
  • Acts 17:31 —Because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead.”
