Open Wide! (What do you mean, my eyes?) | ScienceBlogs

Yeshua [Jesus] challenges us to see the opportunities right in front of us.

We need to see what God IS doing rather than what He isn’t doing. We need to see what God is doing today not what we think He is going to do 4 days from now or 4 months from now or 4 years from now.

Yeshua [Jesus] is doing amazing things today. He wants us to tap into that today. The fields are ready to be harvested. He needs workers today.

What God wants us to do is right in front of us. We must see it.

God’s goal for us is for us (not Him) to open our eyes. We must do it.

My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work,” Jesus told them. “Don’t you say, ‘There are still four more months, and then comes the harvest’? Listen to what I’m telling you: Open your eyes and look at the fields, because they are ready for harvest. | Christian Standard Bible. (2020). (Jn 4:34–35). Nashville, TN: Holman Bible Publishers.

The disciples’ misunderstanding set the stage for Him to clarify His statement. As usual, the disciples were confined to thinking materialistically. Jesus said, My food … is to do the will of Him who sent Me.

This does not mean Jesus had no need of physical food, but rather that His great passion and desire was to do God’s will. He knows that man does not live by bread alone, but “by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord” (Deut. 8:3). His priority is spiritual, not material.

It is the Father’s work which must be done.
