Jesus the Messiah’s life was lived under the shadow of the cross. He was concerned that people should understand his ministry and therefore he exercised great patience, being directed by the Father in the priorities and timing of his work.
As a disciple and slave of the Messiah I am called to demonstrate patience in all my relationships and circumstances. Jesus has shown me His mercy. I must show patience to all I have a relationship with as well. I need help with this. There is good news. Jesus has given me his Holy Spirit to guide me.
Jesus knew why God had sent him into the world. Jesus was going to complete every task that God had given Him to accomplish. There was an hour where that became real.
- John 12:27 (NASB) — “Now My soul has become troubled; and what shall I say, ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour.”
- Mark 1:34 (NASB) — And He healed many who were ill with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and He was not permitting the demons to speak, because they knew who He was.
- Mark 7:36 (NASB) — And He gave them orders not to tell anyone; but the more He ordered them, the more widely they continued to proclaim it.
- Mark 8:30 (NASB) — And He warned them to tell no one about Him.
- Mark 9:9 (NASB) — As they were coming down from the mountain, He gave them orders not to relate to anyone what they had seen, until the Son of Man rose from the dead.
- John 2:4 (NASB) — And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does that have to do with us? My hour has not yet come.”
Jesus the Messiah supremely displays God’s patient character in his work of salvation. The patience of Jesus the Messiah is seen in his relationships with people and in his perseverance through trial and suffering to death.
That is the way of Jesus. Patience leads to salvation.
- John 7:6 (NASB) — So Jesus said to them, “My time is not yet here, but your time is always opportune.”
- John 7:30 (NASB) — So they were seeking to seize Him; and no man laid his hand on Him, because His hour had not yet come.
- John 12:23 (NASB) — And Jesus answered them, saying, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.”
- John 13:1 (NASB) — Now before the Feast of the Passover, Jesus knowing that His hour had come that He would depart out of this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.
- John 16:32 (NASB) — “Behold, an hour is coming, and has already come, for you to be scattered, each to his own home, and to leave Me alone; and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.
- John 17:1 (NASB) — Jesus spoke these things; and lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify Your Son, that the Son may glorify You.”
I’ve also suggested “Patience leads to salvation.”. But I haven’t always been patient. To men who have been disoriented in life due to dysfunction in their family’s homes while growing up I am patient. With guys who have grown up in Christian homes, were good athletes and intelligent I am not patient when I see them following worldly values.
You remind me that I need even more patience for the people who presume to have it all together.

So thankful that Jesus was obedient to dying on the cross. I’m also so thankful to be living in the time of seeing His permanent solution to our sin problem. No more having to hope for that. Think about it – almost two thousand years (only thirteen more to go for a full two thousand) of seeing that promised fulfilled.
