Loyalty to Jesus, the Messiah, has lots of competition.
God doesn’t just want to be first. God wants to be everything. It only matters what God wants us to do.
That is it. That is the main thing. That is the only thing.
Beware of anything that competes with your loyalty to Jesus Christ [the Messiah]. ~Oswald Chambers
God’s goal: Jesus is clear. The kingdom of God and His King must come first. That is it. There is nothing else.
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness.” ~ Jesus
Matthew 6:33`
- What about our family?
- What about our career?
- What about our friends and relationships?
Nope, they are not important in God’s kingdom.
No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and.
Matthew 6:24
We can fill in the blank here. We cannot serve God and _______ . It could be money, sex, alcohol, TV, sports; you name it. In fact, why not name it right now. What is competing with my loyalty to Jesus?
What is competing in our loyalty to mighty King Jesus? We need to root it out of our life. Was not Jesus clear in saying “If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell.” (Matthew 5:29) Of course Jesus was clear. We don’t like to hear it but we have a King who is our Master. Following him is the way to deliverance [salvation].
Yes, Jesus demands loyalty. His brother James knew this. “being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.” (James 1:8) We aren’t to be double minded. We are to have a single focus. That focus is Jesus and the kingdom of God.
All that matters is that we do what God wants us to do so if we listen and get direction from God and follow His way, what we thought would be ordinary becomes extraordinary. Blessings for an extraordinary day!
