Jesus challenges us to live a life of faithfulness and to work for justice and mercy. Jesus uses harsh language calling out the religious leaders as hypocrites.

  • Jesus is not happy at all.
  • Jesus is clear.
  • Justice and mercy are not to be ignored under any circumstance.

Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier provisions of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness; but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others.

Matthew 23:23

This is the truth!

Rats and roaches live by competition under the laws of supply and demand; it is the privilege of human beings to live under the laws of justice and mercy.” ~Wendell Berry
