Jesus had a lot to say. Jesus is radical in what He demands of His followers. This is not easy and can make us queasy.

Here is a list of the teachings of Jesus organized topically.

MAIN TEACHINGS

  1. Love God above all. (Matthew 22:37-39)
  2. Love your neighbor as yourself. (Matthew 22:37-39)
  3. Treat others as you wish to be treated. (Luke 6:31)
  4. Imitate the Good Samaritan. (Luke 10:37)

GOD AND JESUS

  1. Change your mind (aka Repent). (Matthew 4:17)
  2. Believe the Good News. (Mark 1:15)
  3. Have faith in God. (Mark 11:22)
  4. Fear God. (Luke 12:5)
  5. Worship and serve God only. (Matthew 4:10)
  6. Don’t put God to the test. (Matthew 4:7)
  7. Trust in Jesus as we trust in God. (John 14:1)
  8. Come to me and drink. (John 7:37)
  9. Come to me those who are overworked and tired. (Matthew 11:28)
  10. Take up my yoke and work for me. (Matthew 11:29)

OBEY JESUS

  4. Walk while you still have the Light. (John 12:35-36)

  7. Cut off anything that causes you to miss God’s goal (aka sin). (Matthew 8:8-9)

LOVE, FORGIVE AND JUDGE

  2. Care for the sheep. (John 21:15-17)
  3. Don’t lord it over one another. (Luke 22:25-26)
  4. Have salt amongst yourselves and peace with one another. (Mark 9:50)
  5. Don’t murmur amongst yourselves. (John 6:43)
  6. Don’t condemn others. (Luke 6:37)
  7. Judge righteously and not by appearance. (John 7:24)
  8. Reconcile with your brother before making your offering to God. (Matthew 5:23-24)
  9. Examine yourself before correcting your brother. (Matthew 7:5)
  10. If your brother sins, rebuke him. (Luke 17:3)
  11. If your brother sins against you, talk to him privately and show him his fault. (Matthew 18:15)
  12. If your brother says “I repent”, forgive him. (Luke 17:4)

PRAYER AND FASTING

  1. Fast in secret. (Matthew 6:16-18)
  2. Be alert and pray, so that you do not fall into temptation. (Matthew 26:41)

  4. Don’t use vain repetitions when praying. (Matthew 6:7-8)

  2. Make sure that the light you believe you have is not darkness. (Luke 11:35)

  4. Listen to religious leaders but don’t follow their example. (Matthew 23:2-3)

  6. Be careful of false prophets. (Matthew 7:15)

PERSECUTION AND ENEMIES

  1. Deny yourself, carry your cross and follow me. (Mark 8:34)
  2. Don’t fear those who can kill your body. (Luke 12:4)
  3. Be encouraged during difficult times. (John 16:33)
  4. Don’t be troubled or afraid. (John 14:27)
  5. Remember that if they hated me, they will also hate you. (John 15:20, Matthew 10:24-25)
  6. Rejoice and leap for joy when you are persecuted because of me. (Luke 6:22-23)
  7. Love your enemies; do good to those who hate you. (Luke 6:27)
  8. Don’t resist the person who wrongs you. (Matthew 5:39)
  9. Turn the other cheek to the one that hurts you. (Luke 6:29)
  10. Pray for those who persecute you. (Matthew 5:44)
  11. Do more than what you are obliged to do. (Matthew 5:41)

MONEY AND POSSESSIONS

  1. Don’t accumulate treasure on earth, but in heaven. (Matthew 6:19-20)

  4. Forsake all that you own. (Luke 14:33)
  5. Invite those who cannot return the favour. (Luke 14:12-13)
  6. Don’t do your righteousness in order to be seen by others. (Matthew 6:1-2)
  7. When you give to the needy, do it in secret. (Matthew 6:3-4)
  8. Give to those who ask. (Matthew 5:42)
  9. Be generous. (Luke 6:38)
  10. To those that ask, don’t turn away. (Matthew 5:42)
  11. Do good and lend, without expecting anything in return. (Luke 6:35)
  12. If someone takes legal action against you, give more than what they ask. (Matthew 5:40)
  13. If someone takes what is yours, don’t try to claim it back. (Luke 6:30)
  14. Give to Caesar what is his, and give to God what belongs to God. (Matthew 22:21)
  15. Don’t turn the house of God into a marketplace. (John 2:16)

WORKING FOR GOD AND LIVING BY FAITH

  1. You cannot serve both God and wealth (aka mammon). (Matthew 6:24)
  2. Don’t work for physical food, but spiritual food. (John 6:27)
  3. What you receive for free, share for free. (Matthew 10:18)
  4. Don’t worry about your life; what you will eat, drink or wear. (Matthew 6:25-31)
  5. Don’t worry about the future. (Matthew 6:34)
  6. Make the Kingdom of God and His righteousness your top priority. (Matthew 6:33)

PREACHING THE TEACHINGS OF JESUS

  1. Preach the good news to everyone. (Mark 16:15)
  2. Make disciples, baptising them and teaching them to obey Jesus. (Matthew 28:19-20)
  3. Preach repentance and forgiveness of sins in Jesus’ name. (Luke 24:47)
  4. What I tell you in secret, speak openly. (Matthew 10:27)
  5. Open your eyes and see that the harvest is ready, right now. (John 4:35)
  6. Shine your light by doing good works. (Matthew 5:16)
  7. Don’t impede those who preach in Jesus’ name. (Luke 9:49-50)
  8. Be wise like serpents, but innocent like doves. (Matthew 10:16)
  9. Don’t give what is holy to the dogs; don’t cast your pearls before swine. (Matthew 7:6)

MARRIAGE AND CHILDREN

  1. He that can remain single should do so. (Matthew 19:12)
  2. What God has joined in marriage, man should not separate. (Matthew 19:6)
  3. Let the children come to Jesus, and don’t impede them. (Matthew 19:14)
  4. Don’t underestimate little children. (Matthew 18:10)

KEEPING WATCH AND THE LAST DAYS

  1. Stay alert and be prepared. (Matthew 24:42-44)
  2. Be careful that nobody deceives you. (Matthew 24:4-5)
  3. Don’t believe those that say, “Christ is here,” or “Christ is there”. (Matthew 24:23-26)
  4. When you hear of wars and revolutions don’t be afraid. (Luke 21:9)
  5. Flee to the mountains if you see the “abomination of desolation”. (Mark 13:14-16)
  6. Pray that your escape doesn’t happen in winter or on the Sabbath day. (Matthew 24:20)
  7. Keep watch and pray, to escape and present yourself worthy in front of Christ. (Luke 21:36)

HUMILITY AND DISCIPLINE

  1. ‘Clean’ yourself internally, in your spirit. (Matthew 23:26)
  2. Don’t rejoice over having spiritual power, but that you have eternal life. (Luke 10:20)
  3. Don’t sit in the place of honor but take the lowest seat. (Luke 14:8-10)
  4. When you have done all these things that Jesus has commanded say, “We are useless servants; we have only done what it was our duty to do.” (Luke 17:10)
