Jesus had a lot to say. Jesus is radical in what He demands of His followers. This is not easy and can make us queasy.
Here is a list of the teachings of Jesus organized topically.
MAIN TEACHINGS
- Love God above all. (Matthew 22:37-39)
- Love your neighbor as yourself. (Matthew 22:37-39)
- Treat others as you wish to be treated. (Luke 6:31)
- Imitate the Good Samaritan. (Luke 10:37)
GOD AND JESUS
- Change your mind (aka Repent). (Matthew 4:17)
- Believe the Good News. (Mark 1:15)
- Have faith in God. (Mark 11:22)
- Fear God. (Luke 12:5)
- Worship and serve God only. (Matthew 4:10)
- Don’t put God to the test. (Matthew 4:7)
- Trust in Jesus as we trust in God. (John 14:1)
- Come to me and drink. (John 7:37)
- Come to me those who are overworked and tired. (Matthew 11:28)
- Take up my yoke and work for me. (Matthew 11:29)
- Come, follow me. (Matthew 4:19)
- Let the dead bury the dead. (Matthew 8:22)
OBEY JESUS
- Hear, if you have ears to hear. (Mark 4:23)
- Obey my commandments. (John 14:15, 21, 23)
- Strive to enter by the narrow gate. (Matthew 7:13, Luke 13:24)
- Walk while you still have the Light. (John 12:35-36)
- Remain in me. (John 15:4)
- Remain in my love. (John 15:9)
- Cut off anything that causes you to miss God’s goal (aka sin). (Matthew 8:8-9)
- Be perfect, as God is perfect. (Matthew 5:48)
LOVE, FORGIVE AND JUDGE
- Love each other as I have loved you. (John 13:34)
- Care for the sheep. (John 21:15-17)
- Don’t lord it over one another. (Luke 22:25-26)
- Have salt amongst yourselves and peace with one another. (Mark 9:50)
- Don’t murmur amongst yourselves. (John 6:43)
- Don’t condemn others. (Luke 6:37)
- Judge righteously and not by appearance. (John 7:24)
- Reconcile with your brother before making your offering to God. (Matthew 5:23-24)
- Examine yourself before correcting your brother. (Matthew 7:5)
- If your brother sins, rebuke him. (Luke 17:3)
- If your brother sins against you, talk to him privately and show him his fault. (Matthew 18:15)
- If your brother says “I repent”, forgive him. (Luke 17:4)
- If he who sinned doesn’t listen to you, involve two or three witnesses. (Matthew 18:16)
- If he doesn’t listen to the two or three witnesses, involve the whole church. (Matthew 18:17)
- If he doesn’t listen to the church, treat him as an unbeliever. (Matthew 18:17)
- Be merciful, as God is merciful. (Luke 6:36)
PRAYER AND FASTING
- Fast in secret. (Matthew 6:16-18)
- Be alert and pray, so that you do not fall into temptation. (Matthew 26:41)
- Pray in secret. (Matthew 6:5-6)
- Don’t use vain repetitions when praying. (Matthew 6:7-8)
- When praying, follow the pattern in ‘Our Father’. (Luke 11:2-4, Matthew 6:9-13)
- When praying, forgive others. (Mark 11:25)
- Ask God to send workers to the field. (Matthew 9:38)
- Ask, seek, and call. (Matthew 7:7)
- Believe that you will receive when you are asking in prayer. (Mark 11:24)
RELIGION
- Don’t think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. (Matthew 5:17)
- Make sure that the light you believe you have is not darkness. (Luke 11:35)
- Be careful how you hear. (Luke 8:18)
- Listen to religious leaders but don’t follow their example. (Matthew 23:2-3)
- Keep away from religious leaders and politicians. (Mark 8:15, Matthew 16:12, Luke 12:1)
- Be careful of false prophets. (Matthew 7:15)
- Be careful of the teachers of the law. (Luke 20:46-47)
- Don’t use titles of respect for yourselves or others. (Matthew 23:8-10)
- Don’t swear in any way, or for any reason. (Matthew 5:34-36)
- Let your ‘yes’ be ‘yes’, and your ‘no’, ‘no’. (Matthew 5:37)
- Share bread and wine in memory of me. (Luke 22:19)
PERSECUTION AND ENEMIES
- Deny yourself, carry your cross and follow me. (Mark 8:34)
- Don’t fear those who can kill your body. (Luke 12:4)
- Be encouraged during difficult times. (John 16:33)
- Don’t be troubled or afraid. (John 14:27)
- Remember that if they hated me, they will also hate you. (John 15:20, Matthew 10:24-25)
- Rejoice and leap for joy when you are persecuted because of me. (Luke 6:22-23)
- Love your enemies; do good to those who hate you. (Luke 6:27)
- Don’t resist the person who wrongs you. (Matthew 5:39)
- Turn the other cheek to the one that hurts you. (Luke 6:29)
- Pray for those who persecute you. (Matthew 5:44)
- Do more than what you are obliged to do. (Matthew 5:41)
- Agree with your adversary quickly. (Matthew 5:25)
- Don’t worry about how to defend yourself against the authorities. (Luke 12:11-12)
- Don’t prepare a defense beforehand. (Luke 21:14-15)
- When they persecute you in one city, flee to another. (Matthew 10:23)
MONEY AND POSSESSIONS
- Don’t accumulate treasure on earth, but in heaven. (Matthew 6:19-20)
- Give to the poor what you have. (Luke 11:41)
- Sell your possessions and give to the needy. (Luke 12:33, Luke 18:22)
- Forsake all that you own. (Luke 14:33)
- Invite those who cannot return the favour. (Luke 14:12-13)
- Don’t do your righteousness in order to be seen by others. (Matthew 6:1-2)
- When you give to the needy, do it in secret. (Matthew 6:3-4)
- Give to those who ask. (Matthew 5:42)
- Be generous. (Luke 6:38)
- To those that ask, don’t turn away. (Matthew 5:42)
- Do good and lend, without expecting anything in return. (Luke 6:35)
- If someone takes legal action against you, give more than what they ask. (Matthew 5:40)
- If someone takes what is yours, don’t try to claim it back. (Luke 6:30)
- Give to Caesar what is his, and give to God what belongs to God. (Matthew 22:21)
- Don’t turn the house of God into a marketplace. (John 2:16)
WORKING FOR GOD AND LIVING BY FAITH
- You cannot serve both God and wealth (aka mammon). (Matthew 6:24)
- Don’t work for physical food, but spiritual food. (John 6:27)
- What you receive for free, share for free. (Matthew 10:18)
- Don’t worry about your life; what you will eat, drink or wear. (Matthew 6:25-31)
- Don’t worry about the future. (Matthew 6:34)
- Make the Kingdom of God and His righteousness your top priority. (Matthew 6:33)
PREACHING THE TEACHINGS OF JESUS
- Preach the good news to everyone. (Mark 16:15)
- Make disciples, baptising them and teaching them to obey Jesus. (Matthew 28:19-20)
- Preach repentance and forgiveness of sins in Jesus’ name. (Luke 24:47)
- What I tell you in secret, speak openly. (Matthew 10:27)
- Open your eyes and see that the harvest is ready, right now. (John 4:35)
- Shine your light by doing good works. (Matthew 5:16)
- Don’t impede those who preach in Jesus’ name. (Luke 9:49-50)
- Be wise like serpents, but innocent like doves. (Matthew 10:16)
- Don’t give what is holy to the dogs; don’t cast your pearls before swine. (Matthew 7:6)
MARRIAGE AND CHILDREN
- He that can remain single should do so. (Matthew 19:12)
- What God has joined in marriage, man should not separate. (Matthew 19:6)
- Let the children come to Jesus, and don’t impede them. (Matthew 19:14)
- Don’t underestimate little children. (Matthew 18:10)
KEEPING WATCH AND THE LAST DAYS
- Stay alert and be prepared. (Matthew 24:42-44)
- Be careful that nobody deceives you. (Matthew 24:4-5)
- Don’t believe those that say, “Christ is here,” or “Christ is there”. (Matthew 24:23-26)
- When you hear of wars and revolutions don’t be afraid. (Luke 21:9)
- Flee to the mountains if you see the “abomination of desolation”. (Mark 13:14-16)
- Pray that your escape doesn’t happen in winter or on the Sabbath day. (Matthew 24:20)
- Keep watch and pray, to escape and present yourself worthy in front of Christ. (Luke 21:36)
HUMILITY AND DISCIPLINE
- ‘Clean’ yourself internally, in your spirit. (Matthew 23:26)
- Don’t rejoice over having spiritual power, but that you have eternal life. (Luke 10:20)
- Don’t sit in the place of honor but take the lowest seat. (Luke 14:8-10)
- When you have done all these things that Jesus has commanded say, “We are useless servants; we have only done what it was our duty to do.” (Luke 17:10)

Good list. Point 53 on Matthew 23:1-3 has been on my mind this past month. Nehemia Gordon suggests there is a copying error in verse 3. Instead of “they” referring to the Pharisees and scribes it is “he” referring to Moses. Jesus wants us to follow Moses not the Pharisees. Search for references to “The Hebrew Yeshua vs the Greek Jesus” for more on the oral Torah of the Pharisees.
