This seemed important enough to cross post from one of my other sites. I am in mourning and stand ready to collective repent with my brothers and sisters. Please pray for us.
I have been a lifelong member of the Baptist Church. The big and revolting news of the day is the report about the Executive Committe of the Southern Baptist Convention and sexual abuse. It is horrific. There are no words to describe how bad it is.
The first order of business is one of repentance. As a denomination, we voted and installed our leaders. I will leave it at that for now.
God’s word is clear: “Sexual immorality and all impurity and covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints” (Ephesians 5:3). Sexual abuse by pastors or other Christian leaders is an especially appalling betrayal of their biblical calling, for “they are keeping watch over your souls” (Hebrews 13:17) and “must be above reproach” (1 Timothy 3:2). David, thanks. I have reviewed the list. Most of the people listed were prosecuted criminally by the legal system.
Here is a typical example:
OUTCOME: Convicted of 12 felonies, including molestation of a juvenile, indecent behavior with a juvenile and obstruction. Serving a 10-year sentence in Louisiana state prison, according to a prison spokesman.

So then here is the question, if most of these people have already been prosecuted, their names are already in public databases, why release this list and now damage innocent people? It makes no sense.

Hi David, I’m not quite sure. They were convicted or confessed and hence not innocent. Here is more.

Just curious Michael, and you may not know this. How many names are on the list verses how many have been convicted of wrongdoing?

Hi David, here is some clarification about the list. There appear to be about 700 names on the list going back 20 years. In scanning the list, it looks like about 75% were convicted. The names of those not convicted were fully redacted and not disclosed.
Here is the list:
