The job at hand: My role is one of a slave. I am a devoted slave of Jesus, the Messiah. Really? Yes, a slave. I belong to Him. Jesus is my Master. Jesus owns me.

The assignment: I am on assignment. My Master gives me jobs to do.  Some days I get distracted, but Jesus has given me a mission to complete. I am authorized to proclaim God’s words and acts about the good news of Jesus.

So are you a slave of Jesus? We all are. I am not unique in this regard. Will I focus on what God has given me to do? That is today’s question. That is every day’s question.

The sacred writings of the old covenant (aka testament, contract or agreement) contain preliminary reports by the prophets on God’s Son. Jesus, fully human, is a descendant from David who has roots from him in history. Jesus came to us fully human.

  • Beyond that, Jesus is unique in His identity as the Son of God. This is shown by the Spirit when Jesus is raised from the dead.
  • How stunning is that? Seriously, Jesus is raised from the dead into an incorruptible body. The disciples all saw Him and are witnesses to the amazing fact.
  • Here is some good news, Jesus ascended to Heaven to sit at the right hand of God, the Father. Jesus is in charge now.

The Holy Spirit set Jesus apart as the Messiah (the anointed King), my Master. Through Jesus I received the generous gift of his life. I have “eternal life” through Jesus. Death is defeated. w00t!

I also have an urgent task of passing the good news on to others who can receive it by entering obedient trust in Jesus. I am who I am through this gift and call of Jesus the Messiah!

While being a slave, God has adopted me into the Family of Jesus. That is something I never expected.

May we all benefit from the generosity of God our Father and our Master Jesus, the Messiah.
