Jesus is clear with us. He says “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” (Matthew 5:14)

Jesus makes us a light for all to see. Our job is to shine the light of Jesus on everything. Jesus said it so He knows what he is doing. If I were Jesus (and be thankful I am not), I would give me that job. I think some of my wiring is loose.

But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day. The way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know over what they stumble. [1]

It all starts with Jesus.  “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” (John 8:12) This makes it clearer. I can only be the light because Jesus is the light. Jesus gives me the ability to bring truth and what is right into any situation. It is not about me. It is only about Jesus.

Jesus makes us right with God and gives us the ability to live a life of light. Without Jesus, we are in a spiral, life keeps getting darker and darker. We cannot see. We are blind.

What is the good news? Jesus gives me the light of life. God is in a good mood and delights in making this happen for me. I am so thankful for this great gift.

What does age have to do with my light shining brighter? I do not know why but as I grow older, I seem to “get it” better. Perhaps all this time spent with Jesus and His word is paying off. Lots of lessons and perhaps some of them learned. Or as Charles Schulz said, “Just remember, when you’re over the hill, you begin to pick up speed.”
