There are many things we work for, and we deserve to be paid for it. Getting paid for what we do is in no way considered a gift.

We cannot work our way into right standing with God. We have clearly missed his goal for our lives. It is only through the gift of God’s son Jesus, the Messiah, that we can come into the presence of God. It is not something we can do for ourselves. It is only something Jesus could do for us.

  • Our job is to have faith and belief.
  • Our job is to trust God.
  • Our job is to encourage others in their faith.

Now to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due. And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness[1]

Romans 4:4-5

We are justified by faith. We are to encourage others in their faith. It is easy when times get difficult to sit back. We pray for our brother and sister. We can also step into the role of encouraging others in their faith walk.

  • 1 Thessalonians 3:2–3 (NASB) — 2 and we sent Timothy, our brother and God’s fellow worker in the good news of the Messiah, to strengthen and encourage you as to your faith, 3 so that no one would be disturbed by these afflictions; for you yourselves know that we have been destined for this.
  • 2 Corinthians 7:5–7 — 5 For even when we came into Macedonia our flesh had no rest, but we were afflicted on every side: conflicts without, fears within. 6 But God, who comforts the depressed, comforted us by the coming of Titus; 7 and not only by his coming, but also by the comfort with which he was comforted in you, as he reported to us your longing, your mourning, your zeal for me; so that I rejoiced even more.
