Radical Sayings of Jesus
Here is a great overview of Acts 1 from Matt Slick. Matt is President and Founder of the Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry (CARM). CARM stands for the Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry. It was founded in October of 1995 and is one of the oldest and largest Christian Apologetics sites on the internet. CARM is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Its purpose is to equip Christians, defend the faith, and reach the lost for Jesus.
And so when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?” He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority; but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth,
(Acts 1:6-8).
Is this verse for you now? Yes. Same Spirit, same Lord, same need. Do you need power when witnessing to unbelievers? Acts 1:8 is a promise from Jesus that you will not be left empty-handed when sharing the truth of Christ’s love and sacrifice for sinners.
Here is Matt’s conclusion.
It is the Holy Spirit that gives you the power, the strength, the boldness, ability, and the confidence to be witnesses for Jesus. You can’t do it on your own.
If you want to be a bolder witness for Jesus, you need to be praying for it, obeying the Lord, and submitting to the will of the Lord.
Don’t be scared of experiencing God. Don’t be scared of being a witness for Him either.

My church is doing a study on the Holy Spirit and the book of Acts. Warren Wiesbe…Be Dynamic. Twice now in the past few months I learned the Greek word for witness means martyr. Followers do die daily, don’t we? Sure feels like it sometimes anyway!

Thanks for this good exhortation, Michael. We are powerless, but the indwelling Holy Spirit is power-FULL.
