Joy of Jesus

While He was praying, the appearance of His face became different, and His clothing became white and gleaming. And behold, two men were talking with Him; and they were Moses and Elijah, who, appearing in glory, were speaking of His departure which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.” God spoke to Him saying, “This is My Son, My Chosen One; listen to Him!

Luke 9

After the Transfiguration, they come down off the mountain. Jesus sounds upset. The day before he went through an amazing experience.

When they came down off the mountain the next day, a big crowd was there to meet them. A man called from out of the crowd, “Please, please, Teacher, take a look at my son. He’s my only child. Often a spirit seizes him. Suddenly he’s screaming, thrown into convulsions, his mouth foaming. And then it beats him black-and-blue before it leaves. I asked your disciples to deliver him but they couldn’t.” And Jesus answered and said “What a generation! No sense of God! No focus to your lives! How many times do I have to go over these things? How much longer do I have to put up with this? Bring your son here.

When Jesus said, “You unbelieving and perverted generation, how long shall I be with you and put up with you?”, Jesus knew exactly how much longer He would be here. It would not be much longer. Jesus is going to complete every task His Heavenly Father has given. But still, there is not much time left. Tick tock, tick tock!

Jesus does not hold back, ever. Jesus is always clear. Jesus calls it like it is. Jesus knows what is going to happen. Jesus is teaching His disciples. Jesus knows the time is near.

Is Jesus frustrated? The author of Hebrews did not think so. “let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1-3)

Jesus is joyful! Before His crucifixion, He prays in an amazing way. “But now I come to You; and these things I speak in the world so that they may have My joy made full in themselves.” John 17

Jesus also says, “These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full.” (John 15:11)
