Master (Lord) is a title that signifies Jesus the Messiah’s absolute authority and the basis on which people may know him. It is especially associated with his resurrection and return. It is not just a title of respect but is one of authority.

Let us consider the word “master”. So here is a fundamental question: “What is the foundational reality that defines what it means to be a disciple? What is the fundamental reality that distinguishes the believer’s relationship to Jesus? What is our great confession in three words?” Jesus is Lord (Master).

These will wage war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, because He is Master of Masters and King of kings, and those who are with Him are the called and chosen and faithful.

Revelation 17:14

This verse is part of a vision that John saw of the end times, when the beast and his allies will rise up against God and His people. But the verse also reveals the ultimate outcome of this cosmic conflict: the Lamb will overcome them!

Who is the Lamb? The Lamb is none other than Jesus, the Son of God, who died on the cross for our sins and rose again from the dead. He is called the Lamb because He was the perfect sacrifice that took away the sin of the world (John 1:29). He is also called Master of Masters and King of kings because He has all authority and power in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18). He is worthy of all praise and worship (Revelation 5:12).

Who are those who are with Him? They are the called and chosen and faithful. They are those who have heard the gospel and responded with faith and obedience. They are those who have been chosen by God before the foundation of the world to be His children. They are those who have remained faithful to Him even in the midst of trials and tribulations. They are those who will share in His glory and reign with Him forever.

What does this verse mean for us today? It means that we have a great hope and a great destiny. It means that no matter what we face in this world, we can be confident that Jesus has already won the victory. It means that we can trust Him to protect us and deliver us from evil. It means that we can look forward to the day when we will see Him face to face and join Him in His eternal kingdom.

I hope this verse encourages you as much as it does me. Let us praise our Master Jesus, the Lamb who overcame, the Master of Masters and King of kings. And let us follow Him faithfully until He comes again. Amen!
