Heart of Jesus | Jesus intercedes for us - Faithlife Sermons

One of the most comforting truths in the Bible is that Jesus intercedes for believers. This means that he prays to God on our behalf, asking for grace, mercy, and help in our time of need. But what does this intercession look like? How does it benefit us? And how can we respond to it?

Who is the one who condemns? The Messiah Jesus is the one who died, but even more, has been raised; he also is at the right hand of God and intercedes for us.

Romans 8:34 (CSB)

The verse tells us that Jesus intercedes for us from his position of authority and power. He is at the right hand of God, the place of honor and glory. He is also the one who died for our sins and rose again, defeating death and Satan. He is our Savior, our Lord, and our Advocate.

Jesus intercedes for us by presenting his own blood as the basis of our forgiveness and acceptance before God. He also intercedes for us by pleading for our protection, sanctification, and glorification. He knows our weaknesses, our temptations, and our struggles. He sympathizes with us and cares for us. He also knows God’s will and purposes for us. He aligns his prayers with God’s plan and promises.

Jesus’ intercession benefits us in many ways. It assures us of God’s love and favor. It secures our salvation and eternal life. It strengthens our faith and hope. It enables us to overcome sin and temptation. It empowers us to serve God and others. It gives us access to God’s throne of grace and mercy.

We can respond to Jesus’ intercession by trusting him as our Mediator and High Priest. We can also respond by joining him in prayer, interceding for ourselves and others according to his will. We can also respond by living in obedience and gratitude, honoring him with our lives.

Jesus intercedes for us because he loves us and wants us to experience his fullness of joy. Let us praise him for his amazing grace and mercy, and let us draw near to him with confidence and humility.

  • Hebrews 7:25 (CSB) — 25 Therefore, he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, since he always lives to intercede for them.
  • 1 John 2:1 (CSB) — 1 My little children, I am writing you these things so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus the Messiah the righteous one.
