Jesus takes off after the religious leaders and scholars. He does it all the time. I think he wants me to take what he says seriously. I really do!
- What about the religious experts? I shouldn’t put religious leaders and scholars up on a pedestal. It isn’t right and Jesus forbids it.
- Who is my teacher? We all have one teacher. That teacher is Jesus. He is the one who knows what our Heavenly Father wants. Jesus knows God’s goal for me.
- What is God’s goal for me? I have on one Life-Leader. Jesus, the Messiah, is the one. God’s goal is that I follow Jesus. Jesus is in charge of God’s country (aka the Kingdom of God).
“Don’t let people do that to you, put you (i.e. the religious leaders) on a pedestal like that. You all have a single Teacher, and you are all classmates. Don’t set people up as experts over your life, letting them tell you what to do. Save that authority for God; let him tell you what to do. No one else should carry the title of ‘Father’; you have only one Father, and he’s in heaven. And don’t let people maneuver you into taking charge of them. There is only one Life-Leader for you and them—Messiah.”
