Joy of Jesus

Jesus wants me to glad, joyful and happy. Jesus paid the price for my missing God’s goal (aka sin). I deserve death. Jesus died in my place. Jesus is resurrected and sits in authority next to God as King of God’s country. That should make me glad. If it doesn’t, what is wrong with me?

  • The Apostle Paul is emphatic in Philippians 3.
  • He says “rejoice” and then he emphatically says it again.
  • The word here is χαίρω (chairó).
  • It means to be glad, happy and rejoice.
  • It comes to us by combining. xará (“joy”) and xáris (“grace”).

God has put gladness in the hearts of the disciples of Jesus. It is much better than any food or drink. It is a pure gift to all of us. What a God we serve!

  • Philippians 4:4 — Rejoice in the Master always; again I will say, rejoice!
  • Psalm 4:7 — 7 You have put gladness in my heart, More than when their grain and new wine abound.
  • Habakkuk 3:17–18 — 17 Though the fig tree should not blossom And there be no fruit on the vines, Though the yield of the olive should fail And the fields produce no food, Though the flock should be cut off from the fold And there be no cattle in the stalls, 18 Yet I will exult in Yahweh, I will rejoice in the God of my salvation.
  • Philippians 3:1 — 1 Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Master. To write the same things again is no trouble to me, and it is a safeguard for you.
  • 1 Chronicles 16:10 — 10 Glory in His holy name; Let the heart of those who seek the Master be glad.
  • Psalm 43:4 — 4 Then I will go to the altar of God, To God my exceeding joy; And upon the lyre I shall praise You, O God, my God.
  • Philippians 1:23–26 — 23 But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with the Messiah, for that is very much better; 24 yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake. 25 Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy in the faith, 26 so that your proud confidence in me may abound in the Messiah Jesus through my coming to you again.
