One of my mentors always had a great question. I can still hear it. It is always relevant.

“Is this your best work?”

Did you do your best? Do you have faith in God? Then you can forget the rest.

The other side of this is faith. I want radical faith in my life. May it rain down on you and me. May we bath in it to the stunning beauty of our Master Jesus. Now that is a good word!

The strongest statement emphasizing faith comes during the risen Jesus’ encounter with the so-called “doubting Thomas,” where Jesus says, “Fortunate are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe” (John 20:29).

While Jesus performed visible signs during His ministry for others to see and believe, such signs could be abused and misunderstood. In John, Jesus praises the unseeing faith that believes Jesus is the crucified and risen Messiah and Master who alone saves.

  • Hebrews 10:22 — 22 let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
  • Matthew 8:10 — 10 Now when Jesus heard this, He marveled and said to those who were following, “Truly I say to you, I have not found such great faith with anyone in Israel.
  • Matthew 9:20–22 — 20 And a woman who had been suffering from a hemorrhage for twelve years, came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His cloak; 21 for she was saying to herself, “If I only touch His garment, I will get well.” 22 But Jesus turning and seeing her said, “Daughter, take courage; your faith has made you well.” At once the woman was made well.
  • Matthew 15:28 — 28 Then Jesus said to her, “O woman, your faith is great; it shall be done for you as you wish.” And her daughter was healed at once.
