My mother was a woman of hope. We would talk and she would share them with me. Mainly they were hopes for me. She wanted a “better world” and she wanted it for her children. Born in the middle of the great depression. Everyone, including her husband, off at war. Surely there was a better way. She worked hard to make sure we could have it.
Mothers, you have to love them. They want us to do something. We might as well do it. Jesus understood that.
It was a wedding. It is a special time for family and friends. They didn’t plan well. They are running out of wine and that is going to be a problem. The mother of Jesus intercedes.
The mother of Jesus steps in. She knows her son Jesus can take care of it. While He hasn’t done any public miracles yet, she has probably seen the power of God on Him. She knows this is no big deal. Continue reading
It seems basic but I know grown adults who don’t pay a bit of attention said growing up or have to say now. It is sad. It is not the way God intends it to be.
God’s goal is for me to pay attention to the wisdom my parents imparted to me. My parents have passed on now but I can still hear certain things they told me. My favorite from my dad is leave things better than I found them. Continue reading
What does it take to be a part of God’s family?
It is not about my plan. It is all about God’s plan. He has one. Will I obey it? Jesus challenges me to do so.
Now here is some VERY good news. God’s plan is simple and straightforward.
In this day of complicated programs and books, simplicity rocks. The kids even have it on a bracelet. WWJD. “What would Jesus do”?
God’s plan is for me to do what He has in mind for me. All the time. That puts me in the family of God. Good news for sure.
For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother. (Matthew 12:50)
Angel, I have so much respect for you. You are an amazing mother and I stand in awe. Your love, sacrifice and service to your children deserves a shout out on the highest roof top.
You sacrifice so much for them every day. You constantly drop what you are doing to make sure they are taken care of. Your ever abiding thought is how to serve them and make them happy. Continue reading
This is pretty good advise. It came from a woman who knew Jesus very well. His mother knew who Jesus was and what He could do.
And so it was pretty simple. “Do whatever he tells you.”
Now the whatever wasn’t going to make any sense to them. The wedding guests needed wine. Jesus told them to put water into some jars. But, she advised them to do whatever He asked.
And so, the rest of the story is pretty simple as well. They did!! And the water turned into very fine wine.
May I do whatever He tells me.
His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so, John 2:5-8 TNIV
I am a very fortunate man. My father gave me excellent advice. I don’t know that he saw that was doing that but he was.
Or maybe he knew what he was doing. Maybe it wasn’t haphazard.
Regardless, his wisdom serves me well. When I heed it, I am successful.
Then, this is the very cool thing. I have a heavenly Father who is amazingly wise. He sent his son Jesus to show me wisdom and does so every day. My earthly father led me to my heavenly Father.
Good friend, follow your father’s good advice;
don’t wander off from your mother’s teachings.
Wrap yourself in them from head to foot;
wear them like a scarf around your neck.
Wherever you walk, they’ll guide you;
whenever you rest, they’ll guard you;
when you wake up, they’ll tell you what’s next.
For sound advice is a beacon,
good teaching is a light,
moral discipline is a life path.
Great video. Every mom should watch it.
This is the best.
Where do we learn about love? It is from our mothers. They show us the way. Our understanding of love begins there.
Jesus had an amazing mother. Mary, the mother of Jesus, knew that nothing is impossible with God.
At hearing she would become pregnant, even though a virgin, Mary said “Behold, the bond-slave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.”
Mother’s are so special in our lives. We owe our very existence to their love. The embody our hopes for who we can be.
Mother’s bring us love. Our understanding of love starts with our mothers.
Mother’s bring us hope. How great is that?
All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.” ~~Abraham Lincoln
What is Jesus concern as he is facing a slow and cruel death for us? It is for his mother. Jesus leads the way showing us it is not about us. It is about others. It is about family. He makes sure we are taken care of. No one left behind.
“Woman, here is your son. Here is your mother” ~~Jesus John 19:27
